The theater of Florentia was all but forgotten during the Dark Ages. From the Longobardic time forward, it was no longer visible and the imposing underground arches that once bore the bleachers were used as prisons. XI century sources tell of a structure called Parlascio piccolo, that is, of a circular form, which was located in the area of the future Palazzo dei Priori, however only the most recent archeological digs have verified the position of the edifice, confirming that Palazzo Vecchio was built upon the Uberti estate, incorporating towers and other medieval structures, rests its foundation upon a far more ancient past.
